There is one basic overriding premise that draws me to serve as a school
counselor at Adams Middle School while waiting to be placed back into an
elementary school. That premise is: We have to assume some of the
students at Adams have or had relatives in a California prison or jail
where personal attitudes concerning race relations are being shaped to
foster hatred, distrust. This makes it imperative that educators
consciously work against power politics and prejudice as a means to
actively provide three-dimensional interpersonal healthful modeling. I’m
at Adams MS to collaborate with an educational team so we can help
students to reconsider and reform essential life skills more readily
simply by seeing us adult professionals working together and respecting
each other. This basic idea has to operate on every level imaginable in
order to see the best results in our students’ real life performance.
